Don't open the box!
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
About the gamee
Don’t Open the Box is a puzzle game where I give you one incredibly simple instruction: don’t open the box. Unfortunately, getting the opportunity to ignore that instruction requires solving a whole lot of puzzles first. Work your way through boxes filled with strange mechanisms, logic puzzles, codes, switches, locks, patterns and other little challenges. At the end of each box, you’ll finally be given a choice: open it... or leave it alone. Surely after everything you went through, there must be something incredible inside.
...Right?
Game mechanics
Each box contains 25 puzzles, with 50 puzzles currently available across Box 1 and Box 2.
I designed the puzzles to be short and varied, so you’ll constantly be interacting with something different. You’ll encounter things like logic problems, combination locks, pattern puzzles, signal routing, wires, clocks, symbols, color mixing, mechanical contraptions and plenty of other strange mechanisms.
The game supports both keyboard/mouse and controller, although I recommend playing with a controller. I’ve added controller-focused navigation and haptic feedback so different actions, puzzle interactions, successes and achievements can have different vibration responses
Stuck?
If one of my puzzles manages to defeat you, every puzzle includes a stuck button. Pressing it will eventually give you a hint, I say eventually because first I’m going to make you admit several times that you really need one. And if the hint somehow isn't enough, still stuck appears. After another interrogation and a small extra puzzle, I’ll finally give you the straightforward solution.
Future updates
This isn't the end of Don’t Open the Box. I plan to expand the game to five boxes in total. Each major future update will introduce another box containing a completely new set of puzzles. That means the finished game is planned to contain 125 puzzles across five boxes. Box 3, Box 4 and finally Box 5 will arrive through future updates, while I leave room to introduce new achievements, challenges and surprises along the way. And yes. They will still tell you not to open them.

A note from me
I wanted Don’t Open the Box to be a small, weird puzzle game that doesn't take itself too seriously. Something you can play casually, laugh at when the game starts judging you for asking for a hint, and then come back to when you inevitably decide you need to beat your speedrun time. This is only the beginning of the game. With three more boxes planned, there are plenty more puzzles and plenty more boxes you absolutely should not open still to come.
Good luck.
And don’t open the box.
